Urban Heights

Urban Heights is a six-storey commercial building that contributes to Port Moody's goal of becoming a “Complete Community” in which residents can live, work, play, eat, etc. Nearby the Transit Oriented Development (TOD) area, Urban Heights offers much-needed retail and office space to the area.

To differentiate itself from its context along St. John's Street, the design takes a materially pared back approach. The gridded facade is clad exclusively in light aluminum panels to emphasize its expressive form and generous windows. The grid systemically divides the facade, allowing the vertical circulation to be expressed. The back facade is similarly split by a vertical architectural art piece, an integral contribution to the “City of the Arts”, and a strong attractor to public scape surrounding the building. The facade of the lower four levels' is angled inwards at each level, reducing the building's mass and creating a dynamic conversation of light and shadow.

Urban Heights is a visionary building, operating like a vertical mall and office space which brings much-needed commercial space to Port Moody. The unique facade and form engages the public and acts as a new benchmark for future Moody Center developments.
