Charland Fourplex

The Charland Fourplex was designed to further the aesthetic of contemporary housing in Coquitlam. Seeing a trend of the use of real wood on facades of high-end homes in the Metro Vancouver Area, we chose to express the building massing in this material.

By simplifying the massing to let the material have prominence, we sculpted out amenity spaces from a standard cube, creating integral forms which reflect interior and exterior uses. Thus, each unit has a rooftop deck and third level sun-room, as well as a covered entry. The sculpting also acts to develop clear unit differentiation, enhancing its street and urban presence.

The Charland Fourplex is a break from typical missing-middle development in its style, and uses simple design moves in form and material to create luxury units, while remaining cost-effective.
